C is the way to go for embedded for many reasons. 90+% of the code I write is C but I'm not a big fan of it. Expressing higher level constructs and concepts like classes and polymorphism is extremely verbose in C.

Like others said, unless your machine is poorly built, that is well within design specs. If you are paranoid, just download some temperature monitoring software (e.g. "motherboard monitor") and see if it goes too high. Besides temperature though, high load is more likely to reveal other problems like RAM timing/motherboard stability issues. -- Modified Monday, April 19, 2010 3:33 PM

SSD prices will keep on dropping but that by no means leaves you with a technological dinosaur. I have a generation 1 Intel SSD which is "obsoleted" by the G2, however it is still orders of magnitude faster than an HDD. Outdated? I don't think so.

I have the 1st generation one and it is awesome. VS starts up instantly, as do everything else. The G2 is even faster. Surprisingly, Acrobat Reader still takes a few seconds to start up.

Not surprising. The popular culture of today is anti-intellectual, and programming has been largely commoditized.

What one does outside of work should be none of the company's business (unless it's detrimental in some way which is unlikely). But on the other hand, "chemistry" with one's colleagues is a valid concern so I kind of understand.

That's just about 10mb/s which is kind of slow even when you are copying between the same drives, especially since you got RAID (configured for speed I assume).
