Awesome, thanks! My doctor says the same...I should wait until things get really difficult for me, otherwise, just use the good eye you have and avoid doing stupid things, like practicing boxing :) I will bookmark that page for future references. Kind regards, Jaime.

Thanks for the heads up... A quick google search reveals is an alternative type of medicine (at least, not occidental) coming from India...unfortunately, that quite posses on me a geographical limitation and I don't know if that kind of medicine could be found locally where I live (Lima - Peru)... My doctor seems so negative about it, he told me every time I visit him that so far no cure has been found (it can't be solved with an eye surgery as with most myopia patients) nor an alternative method exists yet... I went to surgery when I was a kid with this doctor, he did some wonders with my left eye that prevent it to keep growing (in fact, last time I check my myopia got reduced by 0.5). After that, his advice is only one: avoid any kind of head trauma (I stopped playing soccer at 15 because of the headaches)... But I have learnt to live with my problem, I can see quite well, I have -5 at my left eye, so is not that bad, I have seen worst... Anyway, appreciate the feedback, someday I might want to give it a try... Kind regards, Jaime.

When I was 8 years old I was diagnosed with Degenerative myopia, I still can see (well, my right eye is useless, I practically use just one eye) and have not started to get the symptoms yet that would trigger the red alert for my left eye (I am 27...doctor said around 40 I am pretty much screw!)... So in some way I feel your pain, my prayers are for you and your wife, I hope your doctor can solve your eye problems... Too bad I felt in love with this programming career that makes me stare at a screen for so long. Stay strong my friend.

    There's a reason for that, you can have content inside a tags, so, I think is more about a lack of understanding of how the web works...but don't worry, I've been bitten by that too. <div class="signature"><a target="_blank" href="http://seeker.dice.com/profman/servlet/ProfMan?op=1052&fileName=a99a3c4076f4243f1619d3113fb42f8a">Jaime </a> <a href="http://jaime_febres.elance.com" target="_blank">Febres</a> <a href="http://emiajnet.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">The worst blog in the world</a> </div></x-turndown>

Ouch!, ok, no offense taken. I wouldn't discuss with you about wpf/silverlight here because obviously you've more miles than me, so, I respect your opinion. Like most people, I'm trying to grasp this new way of do things (I've a web development background), I've tried PRISM and now I'm giving a try to nRoute, the problem is that I'm using it on pet projects of mine, and in my experience that's not enough, you need a real project with real requirements to fully understand what its all about. Ok, back to MVVM, no doubts is a great pattern, but I think most people assume you've great xaml skills and they skip some not so obvious subjects and that makes thing even more difficult to understand. However, I reckon that nobody out there owes us any kind of free training. I'll check out the blog post that you are referring to, thanks for sharing it.

We do have a cms product already being used by several companies, we want a better one :)

I downloaded Kigg to modify and learn MVC. I figured it would be a good place to start, and I immediately started drowning in a morass of tightly coupled classes and xml configuration. To add one new object type, you have to end up modifying 5 projects and xml files adding a related class to each one. All that kicks in before you even start writing tests for your new class. The plumbing to application ratio is astronomical, the guys that wrote that have a real architecturalization fetish.

:s, hope ours do not end up as something like that :D, seriously, our goal is to have a highly testable cms (thus, the suggestion of checking fubumvc from my boss) without adding too much complexity. Who knows, I may be posting here our final results :)

And if the boss doesn't like your code, then you better start improving it. Learning from other people's code in the team does help.

What to do when the team is just he and me :) (at least for this project), other projects in the same company aren't green at all, so as you could imagine, they don't have the bar as high as this one but I wouldn't call them bad in terms of coding standards or inner quality, just the fact that this one it seems it requires a super-star developer :). I've been told to take a look at some open source projects from Jeremy Miller (fubumvc), I'm doing that right now, the level of complexity is way out of my league, but I'm doing the effort, though.

He definitely has a lot of design skills (not in the photoshop or dreamweaver aspect, I'm talking about the of designing software), and yes, I would call him the expert. Some times what I do is "too simple" others is "too complex".

I don't think so, I've felt always good with him and all, is the fact that lately I've not been very productive and my work is always subject of being redone, even if I give the best of me (which seems to not be enough). Anyways, thanks for your advice, I suppose I should just stop bitching about it and just do it right. Have a nice day.

Hi there, I'm facing such a problem at work... All started a couple of weeks ago, the project I'm currently working on is a green project, my boss have envisioned a great architecture and it seems that I'm not doing it right lately, in the beginning there were some bad times but almost always I came up with something that made him feel comfortable with the project cycle, currently for the past few weeks every time he makes a code review I get the code all full of comments like "THIS IS A MESS", "WTF" and so on, I never liked to be a disposable member in any team I've participated before and I've no plans to become one of those...my question is...what do you guys do in order to keeping always up your reputation or coding quality? I kinda started to feel lost and with such a "check-in" fear because I know something terrible it's going to happen :p

  • Version Control Systems (yes again)
    E emiaj

First two years: No source control (me => scary) Next two years: VSS (me => oh this is cool) Next year: TFS (me => oh this is better, I don't think there's something better than this) This year: Git and Mercurial (me => holly crap, I've been with my head under the sand for so long, this is way better than any of those MS version controls). Between Git and Mercurial we opted by using Mercurial due to its VS integration and better tooling in general (I'm talking about a Windows oriented environment). But I've some pet projects where I use one or the other in order to master them (only time will tell ;) ).

  • How to get into IT?
    E emiaj

Well, I can consider myself very lucky. While I was at the tech school I did always sent my CV everywhere, I mean, EVERYWHERE, thus one day I receive a call, after a 10 minutes interview I got a job as a junior level dev. This first job was a crappy one (my boss was as as***, working on holidays, +9 hours per day, and so on), but I understand that this was the price to pay to gain some experience. Then at the office I met some friends who seeing on me some value and after the project got successfully finished, they offered me a better job in a dev position as well. The second job wasn't a lot of better than the previous one, but wasn't so bad either. And that was the constant over the years...some friend contacted me and offered me a better job. And here I'm, at my 5th job which is the greatest thing that had ever happened to me. In my way to where I'm many things had happened to me, but all of them (good and bad ones) had helped me to become a better professional in all those years. I'd never finished the tech school, at my second job I got the notice that I was going to be a dad (22 years old, can you imagine that?), so the bills were increasing and I need to work full time and do my best to become relevant inside the companies were I worked (you know, someone who is not disposable). Next month I'll start again the tech school and I hope to finish it, I just need to make some paperwork and if everything goes well I'll end it in one year or so. My advice, follow your instincts, do what you think is good for you, READ a lot about software development (codeproject has some great articles that would help you), and also return some love to the community, that would pay you back sooner or later. Good luck.

Yes, probably that would happen, but it does not stop me to continue sharing my knowledge with the community. I do not claim to be a "master" or something, I'm just trying to write down the things that to me seems to be interesting. One thing that I've also noted is that I'm a very bad writer :D, however, the feedback that I receive from CP members helps me to improve the articles, giving me the extra benefit of learn something new in the process. I think that write articles about some 'X' subject it pays back all the effort at the end (you become a little bit better about the subject that you write about), so I'll continue doing it no matter how many votes I might get.
