Court Case: First "Witness" -
Monitor size?I guess it all depends on whether you want / need to see the debugger without the ui being overlapped or need to see multiple instances of visual studio for client server, p2p or multi tier debugging.. Personally I've gone from 2 * 21" CRT to 2 * 22" LCD's and usually get away with that. But the thought of trying to be productive on a single 17" LCD is mind bogglingly painfull in this the 21st century. But then some people probably still think punch cards where a great way to program...

I hate Teltra (still)Yeh we've just tested iiNet as a second connection in the office. It's better than optus (but then that's not saying much is it ;) I had an InterNode account at home for a while and it was fine but when I moved I had to drop it because they didn't service the new area. Went with TPG which has been fine so far ~ We really really need to spin off a national telecomms infrastructure company from Telstra with the G9 members as equal partners. Yeh I know I'm dreaming...

Really Dry Skin...The Body Shop's Hemp Hand Protector is about the best I've found so far. http://www.thebodyshop.com/bodyshop/browse/product_detail.jsp?productId=prod5950023&categoryId=cat1010003

Hz in TFT displaysIt's not irrelevant at all. Especially in terms of incandescent / fluorescent light flicker and digital tv / video frame dropping. But before getting into a 60 vs 75 Hz debate you need to sort out whether the user is in a 50 or 60 Hz country ( In terms of ac power and by extension TV signaling rates ). In general in a 60 Hz NTSC / ATSC country stay with 60 Hz and in a 50 Hz PAL / DVB-T country 75 Hz is the better compromise. Although I intend to stay with CRT technology at @100 Hz until better LCD (or xyz) technologies come along.

Message Removed / Deleted?Wrong. This is a collectively owned and operated environment that the operators fund with backend advertising and donations. Without the members it is worth precisely zero dollars ;)

H.264 codec recommendationI'm assuming SD only... It may just be a case of disabling DxVA H/W acceleration or enabling VMR9 support ~

TV Tuner recommendationsAre you talking ATSC or DVB-T ??? For ATSC you only have a few choices like the VBox USB 3560. For DVB-T the choices widen considerably. The TwinHan Beetle (also OEM'd as the MSI DigiVox) is a fabulous and very small unit no FM though ~ The TwinHan Alpha is very similar just different styling. The TwinHan MagicBox Pro has FM but in a larger form factor. Just be suspicious of any of the little stick products with silicon tuners as opposed to tradition can type tuners. Although they have improved a lot in the last couple of years they still don't seem to perform as well ~ And make sure they have stable and supported BDA (MCE) drivers available. One day you will undoubtedly want to use 3rd party software and / or want Win64 driver support. http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showforum=9 http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?act=idx http://www.tv-cards.com/messageboard/index.php

Anyone ever fly Air New Zealand ?My what short memories we have ;P It's only what 5 years since Air New Zealand bought Ansett, ran it into the ground with poor maintenance, resulting in the grounding of their ?entire? 737 fleet Air New Zealand was technically bankrupt and IIRC Qantas was looking at buying them for $1.00 (plus assumed debt) I don't think the ACCC (or the NZ equivalent) where too keen on the idea. I forget who bailed them out was it Singapore Airlines or the NZ Govt in the end ~ But hey their long haul fleet is probably ok... They claim their 747's are only 12 years old http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/aboutus/fleet/default.htm

Vista: Do you blame anyone, and if so, who? [modified]I don't care but it's definitely Microsoft's fault. They simply haven't put decent management strategies in place to ensure that software comes out of the other end of the process. For the amount of time, effort and money they have put into it they sure haven't ended up with very much

Sound in the outer space and spaceshipsAnd we will just ignore the much more glaring problem of "aerodynamic" fighters swooping and diving thru the non existent air ;P

DVD software questionA later version of CyberLink PowerDVD or InterVideo WinDVD. If you have a late model nVidia card you could look at TheaterTek DVD ~ I stick with Nero for burning.

Ayer's Rock/Uluru & The Olga'sMegan Forbes wrote:
I've been told it has significance in the Dreamtime and so people are "requested" to respect this and not climb it any longer
What a crock of sh*t :| But if you are going to climb it, make sure to take as much water as you can carry and realise that when you get to the top of the chain (assuming its still there) you are only about 1/4 of the way there with all those bloody 2 ~ 3 m ripples that you have to clamber over to get to the actual top. I personally found climbing through the Olga's more interesting but again lots of water required and I needed to improvise a climbing rope from my belt, canteen webbing and some sticks at one point ~ King's Canyon is probably worth a visit. IIRC it's all sealed roads these days... Stanley Chasm west of Alice if you've haven't seen enough rocks by then  IIRC you can do some sort of underground mining tour at Mt Isa

Why don't we have Ignore User options on these forums ?Life is too short to read even the headers of Link2006's posts

Does anybody have the right to say, you dont have the right to know?Well for example I'm all for the knowledge required to produce Genetically Modified Bio Weapons etc to be supressed for as long as possible. From what I've read some of the 'products' that where produced at Vector and Biopreparat are truly scary and have no legitimate purpose other than wiping human life from the face of the planet :(( So 1. In some circumstances 2. Yes if it genuinely is for the greater good and not just repression and control 3. Obviously this is a value judgement

USB 2 vs USB 1?As the others are saying it should fall back. The exception to the rule are devices such as DVB-T / ATSC USB tuner sticks which receive off air at a rate faster than USB 1.0 supports. There is just no way to squeeze 24 / 19 MBits/s into 12 MBits/s

Watch that first step!I'm waiting for the next stage where they aerobrake out of low earth orbit with a disposable personal heatshield before transitioning to the freefall component. Now that would be something to see :omg:

Watch that first step!Nah he'll basically be in a heated space suit with an oxygen supply as well or else the depressurisation and hypoxia would probably get him first ;)
-
Watch that first step!No he will slow down before deploying the parachute or there would be a problem ;)
