We Kufr tend to define Jihad in much the same way. Though I belive it can also refer to a spiritual struggle, rather than a military one. It was a bloody stupid word for him to use. About as tactful as 'Operation Infinute Justice'. Tempers were a little frayed at the time though. Ryan.

Europe's view of world threatspeterchen wrote: I don't think so. Many people that moved over the ocean were driven by "leaving the past behind" and "build something new". Not so for those that stayed. Google can't provide me with a counter-example. So I guess you must be right :P. This http://orwell.ru/library/articles/antisemitism/e/e_antib.htm[^] makes good reading. peterchen wrote: This is what I'd call dangerous optimism. I would like to think that facism couldn't get a foothold in a democratic society thats not being ravaged by poverty and running street battles between extremist poilitcal grounps, European or not. 'Healthy scepticism' is closer to the mark. The rise of the new right on the continent is a little worrying. The facists in britain have very little, highly localised support in sink council estates. They use the percieved unequal distribution of state benifits to make the white resisdents jealous of their pakistani and banglideshi neighbors. Make of that what you will.

Europe's view of world threatspeterchen wrote: And it must not be forgotten that there is some ... animosity towards jews deeply rooted in European history and culture that dates back long before 3rd Reich, and Europeans, being strongly culture-aware, don't get rid of this within one generation. Surely that would have crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower too? What happened in Germany was a result of economics and a vulnerable polical system. It would have been unthinkable in Britain or France, I can't comment on Scandinavia. Ryan

Put some Sparkle in AvalonW3C has been on this one too. http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-smil/[^] A nearly player: http://www.x-smiles.org/xsmiles_objectives.html[^] MS will get there first and have it widely deployed. Then everybody will start complaining that they are not following the 'standards'. XForm compatability in Infopath would be really handy though. Ryan

thread in COM for Office AddinAre you trying to access an STA from a different thread than the one that you created the object in?. In which case you are going to have to marshal a new proxy for the thread. Have a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/com/htm/cmf_a2c_88tp.asp[^] and http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/com/htm/cmf_a2c_1rjh.asp[^]. Remember to call CoInitialize in your thread before doing anything with COM too. Ryan

What do you guys use to parse XML?I make pretty heavy use of XML, including schema's and suchlike. The library I use is Arabica (http://sourceforge.net/projects/arabica/[^]). Its a thin wrapper for MSXML,libxml and expat, the interface is pleasant to work with, unlike the underlying libraries. Portable too. Ryan.

Inquiring minds want to knowIf you find one, let me know. Last time I checked, untrained speech recognition was next to useless. My baby is a telephony product, getting even partial transcriptions of converstations would be very useful. The chaps who used to to dragon dictate have a product that says it is capable, but they don't allow evaluation downloads. Or respond to mail containing test data.. Ryan.
