Most of it. The amphibious fleet probably spent 2/3 of its time cruising the South China sea in those days, and in between we were picking up astronauts and other short missions. The New Orleans got the lion share because our two sister ships, the Okinawa and the Iwo Jima, were often unable to get underway. If you've seen the footage of the helicopter being pushed over the side of the ship as Saigon was falling, that was (if memory serves) the Okinawa, which had only just relieved us the week before after about a 3 month delay. Nowadays the deployments are even longer, especially for the big ships. Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Landmark Legal Foundation [^] filed freedom of information act requests to find out who attended briefings. Shortly after that threats of charges stopped on advisers to the Bush administration. I suspect they knew what was in those documents. modified on Friday, May 8, 2009 10:59 AM

Here's the interesting thing. I can't prove it. I can prove that sources on the internet claim that, and you can probably claim that other sources, no doubt ones that explain how this somehow ( bizarrely ) proves some conspiracy, will claim otherwise. I guess the thing to ask is, if we can't go back in time, if there's no newspaper that reports it to give us a date, how do we decide who has the bigger reason to lie ? I go with the crackpots on this one. Assuming that a speech was given on Sept 11, 1991, about some super secret conspiracy, which was meant to stay a secret, what advantage would the orchestrators of this new world order have in waiting exactly 10 years to the day, to presumably be behind a terrorist attack ? If this was the date, and it was a matter of public record, might the date have been chosen for this purpose, without it being proof of a new world order being imminent ? How does this prove ANYTHING ? Christian Graus Driven to the arms of OSX by Vista. "I am new to programming world. I have been learning c# for about past four weeks. I presume folks with more time on their hands than I have (Troy, maybe?) have checked his math. Maybe, but if you really think about it all, science has proven that the universe came into existence in a moment of creation, and mankind appears mysteriously in a state of innocence in an isolated garden. Sounds pretty damn close to what some bronze age middle eastern sheep herder supposedly pulled out of his ass 3000 years ago. Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys.
