It's really no different from any other sport - it is exercise, it is skilled, it takes a lot of practise to get good, and it is competative when you are out in the field. It also brings in the hunted/hunter rush from paintball while allowing for realistic military simulations (tactics, equipment, etc) where you can safely shoot another human being without causing serious injury. (and that last bit is very important.) Don't get in the habbit of calling airsoft guns bb guns though - they are not technically the same. An airsoft gun is an airgun, a bb gun is a market stall toy, and if you have ever used both you will know it is like comparing hunting rifles with elastic bands. There are a lot of retailers selling bb guns as airsoft guns because it is 'the label to have on your products'. You mention accuracy, well not many people have access to shooting ranges over 100 metres so really it is a moot issue. I could have a car which goes up to 200mph but why bother when I can only drive at 70mph? I upgrade all of my guns to the UK-legal-limit and when not taking them to organised game/milsim events I do target shooting in back garden. The accurancy for this is the same as my UK-legal-limit high precision air rifle (which is a lot more powerful). There are people that 'pray and spray' 100 rounds a minute in the hope will will hit their target, but the serious players who are the ones with the serious equipment got into airsoft for the challenge and fun side of it rather than the popular paintball culture 'rambo' style. Pricing is an issue, but I would rather the serious equipment stays out of the financial reach of irresponsible kids. Some townie is unlikely to spend £3k on a single airsoft rifle when they could buy all kinds of pretty stickers and plastic addons for their cars for half of that. (Unlike some people I know :-O ) Basically, if you've ever wanted to be a part of what you do in games like Rainbox Six or Ghost Recon, assualting (real) underground radar bunkers, missile silos, taking down armoured patrols, etc, with real equipment, then airsoft is the only way to do it.
