peterchen wrote: I guess now we're at the heart of the problem. It's not about feelings. It's not my "tender feelings", but I am convinced if we go down this road further, we all end up in a big and ugly mess. And, in this case, one might wonder why the opinion of the Iraqui opposition counts so much more. Well, I'm not actually the one who brought up the 'feelings' idea. Maybe I'm misreading you, but when you wrote "Why there's no concern about the people that don't want this war?", I thought you were implicitly saying 'feelings and opinions'. Afterall, if you didn't mean 'feelings and opinions' of anti-war people, there's no reason at all to use the phrase "the people who don't want this war" in the sentence. To say, "I am convinced if we go down this road further, we all end up in a big and ugly mess" is saying everyone will end up in a big mess - not just the "people that don't want this war". (But, I think I'm getting a bit pedantic to point out the shift in reasoning.) peterchen wrote: You may call the anti-war-movement as "stuck up in their own little interests", or "state fed wimps knowing nothing about the real life." But that is a serious underestimation. I never said that and I've never used derogatory language to describe anti-war believers. ------------------------------------------ "What happened in that Rhode Island club is shocking. Hmmmm you make it sound like the US was Iraq's chemical arms dealer. This, of course, is false. I understand your trying to pin the blame on the US because you want to grind an axe, but the US was guilty of looking the other way (just as a majority of nations did - and there are a LOT of nations which backed Iraq Map[^] ). I'm sure US companies had supplied dual-use chemical precursors to Iraq, but to say that the US was "the one who supplied the chemicals" is just your own imagination. From your source: Although U.S. arms manufacturers were not as deeply involved as German or British companies in selling weaponry to Iraq, the Reagan administration effectively turned a blind eye to the export of "dual use" items such as chemical precursors and steel tubes that can have military and civilian applications. Although U.S. export controls to Iraq were tightened up in the late 1980s, there were still many loopholes. Even further, the US' policy towards Iraq comes as little surprise when this fact is revealed: "Everybody in the Arab world told us that the best way to deal with Saddam was to develop a set of economic and commercial relationships that would have the effect of moderating his behavior. History will demonstrate that this was a miscalculation." These sources should raise some doubts about the idea that the US "the one" who supplied the chemicals: Official Iranian commentaries, too, have pointed to the USSR as a supplier of the Iraqi weapons. These sources have also accused Brazil, France and, most conspicuously, Britain of supplying the weapons. No basis for any of these Iranian accusations has been disclosed. France, alongside Czechoslovakia and both Germanies, is reportedly also rumoured, among "foreign military and diplomatic sources" in Baghdad, to have supplied Iraq with chemical precursors needed for an indigenous production effort. Unofficial published sources have cited Egypt as a possible supplier of actual chemical weapons. In the mid-1960s, when Iraq was alleged to be using chemical weapons against insurgent Kurdish forces, Swiss and German sources of supply were reported in the Western press. http://projects.sipri.se/cbw/research/factsheet-1984.html[

Here's a suggestion. Why not embed him with Sadam's Revolutionary Guard. Then when can have the real facts. Mostly just a wise-ass remark. Not much doubt GWB is in a stickier mess than hoped for. Still, I'm not willing to give much of anything I see full credibility. All sides are spinning wildly IMO. :rose: Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped. - Elbert Hubbard

we haven't had a declared war since 1941. we've had police actions, UN actions, and "conflicts", but not a "War", in 60+ years. ironically, the people who wrote our Constitution did not want a system where the ability to start a war would rest in the hands of one person: "the power to declare war is fully and exclusively vested in the legislature" - James Madison "[the president's power would] amount to nothing more than the supreme command and direction of the land and naval forces ... while that of the British King extends to the declaring of war." - Alexander Hamilton but, we've let that slide and nobody seems to mind . -c Image tools: ThumbNailer, Bobber, TIFFAssembler

It's incredible how people can take a comment and twist it every which way until it makes the person look like a fool. Kinda' like me posting something with the headline: CPian, Bedri Egrilmez, claims new formula for the justification of September 11 attacks! 1 US casualty = 3 UK casualties = 1000 Iraqi casualties ! :wtf: Imagine the replies from that. ;P - Nitron "Those that say a task is impossible shouldn't interrupt the ones who are doing it." - Chinese Proverb

I couldn't have put it better myself. I find it incredible that people (and especially politicians) can be so clinical about suffering and death. :( One day I sincerely hope our nations will evolve past the spoilt brats they are into something worthy of humanity. Until then, I'll keep crying. It's the only way I can cope with what I see around me.
